LinkedIn add ‘blocking and reporting’- It’s been a while coming, but you can now block or report unwanted connections or visitors to your profile on LinkedIn. If you need to block or report someone visit the profile of the person you want to block and select ‘Block or report’ from the drop-down menu to the left of the connections total. After you’ve blocked someone you won’t be able to access each other’s profiles or message each other. If you’re connected, the connection will be broken. Any previous profile views of yours and of the other person will disappear from each of your ‘Who’s Viewed My Profile’ sections.

Foursquare splits into two apps- Foursquare has launched a new app called Swarm - download it here - which is based around friends and their location while the existing Foursquare app will be focussed on venues and their discovery. Swarm provides the check-in functionality that’s familiar to Foursquare - iOS and Android - users and will display the location of your friends. It includes a neighbourhood sharing feature that allows friends to see when you’re in their neighbourhood and for you to see when friends are nearby. Friends can create a plan eg visit the cinema that’s viewable by friends in their city who can then reply to the suggested plan. Foursquare will provide recommendations of places to visit based on your past check-ins and reviews from other Foursquare users.

Buffer makes it easier to find and post content - regular readers will know that I’ve long been a fan of Buffer, the social media scheduling tool. It’s now got even better with the ability to pull RSS feeds into its dashboard, allowing you to easily access and post content to your social networks directly from Buffer. The new feature is only available to those with a paid product.

Twitter introduces mute feature - According to Twitter, this new feature ‘gives you even more control over the content you see on Twitter by letting you remove a user’s content from key parts of your Twitter experience.’ Or in other words, you can remove a users content from your time line without unfollowing them. To mute, go to More under any tweet and select ‘Mute @username’. It should now be available on iOS, Android and Twitter on the web, but for me it’s only available on Android.

Facebook launching Audience Insights- Facebook are introducing Audience Insights which will provide advertisers with a greater understanding of people they can reach. Details will include demographics, Page likes - pages people like in different categories, location and language, Facebook usage -how frequently are people in your target audience logging onto Facebook and what device/s they are using, purchases activity eg heavy buyers of women’s clothes and purchase methods ie in-store or online.
