Social Media Tips

Get visitors ‘Pinterested’ in your website

You may not yet have heard of Pinterest yet but it’s growing faster than any social network before it. In the words of its creators, ‘Pinterest lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.’

So there you have it. There are some parallels with Facebook’s Timeline as both enable people to maintain and organise online scrapbooks. It’s too early to be sure of it’s value to business but what is certain is that it’s driving plenty of traffic to websites; Pinterest accounts for 3.6 percent of all referral traffic, nearly as much as Twitter (3.61 percent). (PR Daily). So it’s certainly worth thinking about investing a little time to set up an account and to get pinning.

For example, if you sell a visual product such as clothing or cupcakes you could pin and upload photos of your product. Visitors can then click on your photos to view the ‘pin’ and then again to visit your website. However, remember this is social media so don’t just push your own products all the time. Be inclusive and display related products from other websites and point people in the direction of useful resources.
