Photo tag spamming

Have you received a notification on Facebook saying you or a friend have been tagged in a photo only to discover the photos is a product advert or event poster? It’s a practice known as ‘photo tag spamming’ and is on the increase. Naturally, you’ll be interested in viewing a photo of a friend who’s been tagged when you’re notified in your News Feed but it’s irritating to say the least when you discover that they have actually been tagged at all.

The same thing applies if you’ve been tagged in this way plus with the additional problem of the advert of poster appearing in your photo strip on your profile.

This is really bad use of social media and whilst it may achieve the objective of drawing attention to a product or event it’s a cheap and nasty tactic that could well backfire.
